Body recovered on Taupō-nui-ā-tia, rāhui remains in place

On the afternoon of Monday 20 January, the body of a deceased male was found in Taupō-nui-ā-tia (Lake Taupō) near Te Ākau Point.

Police confirm it is the same male who was involved in the tragic jetski accident on Sunday 19 January.

The search party included police, coastguard local whānau, and hapū.

The whānau pani (bereaved family)are being supported by local hapū, police, and the community.

The Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board sends its sincere condolences to the whānau pani and acknowledges all who have contributed to search and support work.

The rāhui enacted by Ngāti Rauhoto and Ngāti Te Urunga remains in place until further notice.

The hapū respectfully state that no swimming, water activities, fishing, or kai gathering should occur in the affected area during the rāhui.
