Ko Tūwharetoa te Iwi
Support of and engagement with our people to support their hopes and aspirations is another core function of the Trust Board. We support descendants of Tūwharetoa by providing a range of programmes, which aim to ensure:
- Our People are healthy and well
- Our People achieve their educational objectives
- Our People achieve their cultural aspirations and feel proud of their Tūwharetoa heritage
To ensure our programmes are relevant, the Board has undertaken to communicate actively with our people and seek your feedback. From time to time we’ll be uploading web surveys and information day’s pānui. Your feedback is important in helping us review policies and programmes of the Board for your benefit.
Some Facts
Over the past 10 years, our population has increased by more than 10,000. According to census figures, our population in 2006 numbered 34,674. This is slightly more than the total population of the Taupō district, but interestingly many of our Iwi live away from home or outside of the district. According to the last census approximately 22% of our people live in Waikato, 17% in Auckland, 15% in the Bay of Plenty and 15% in Manawatū/Whanganui region. We have a very young population, one third of which is aged 25 years and younger.
