
TUWHARETOA ADULT LITERACY INITIATIVE

According to an international survey one in four adults in New Zealand struggle with their literacy? It is a far bigger problem that many of us realize. If someone you know is in this position, they are definitely not alone.
For a variety of reasons some people have not picked up certain skills like sounding out, spelling, basic maths etc. and this often has huge effects on day to day living.
The aim of this initiative has been to help any adult from within the community to:
This is a great opportunity for any adult to participate and have a positive learning experience. It is an ideal programme for someone who does not feel confident about their literacy or wants to achieve a learning goal and does not know where to begin.
This is a free and confidential service.
Comments from students have included….nothing is going to stop me now….I would never have got my licence if this wasn’t held here……..one to one suits me…..now I’m going to start doing things on my own.
